Renovations start Wednesday on Union Station’s Madison entrance

Renovation work is set to start Wednesday morning on the Madison Street entrance to Union Station.

Parts of the area surrounding the Madison entrance will be fenced off starting Wednesday morning as crews begin to repair the pavers, stairs and ceiling and make other cosmetic improvements, according to a statement from Metra. The fencing will be relocated throughout the area as different sections are worked on.

The Madison entrance provides access to the north ends of the platforms for Metra’s Milwaukee North and West lines and the North Central Service, Metra said. More than 16,000 passengers use it every weekday.

The project, which is expected to cost $826,000, is being overseen by Jones Lang LaSalle, which manages the property, according to Metra. The work is expected to take about four months to complete.
