A second person who was struck by a vehicle last week in northwest Indiana has died.

Chana K. Boyd, 41; and 36-year-old Artazian Mitchell were struck by a vehicle about 10 p.m. May 20 in the 4300 block of Martin Luther King Drive in Gary, according to Gary police.

Boyd, who lived in the 700 block of Ohio Street in Gary, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:01 p.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

Mitchell, of the 800 block of North Wells Street in Gary, was initially taken to Methodist Hospital – Northlake, but was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died at 2:57 a.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found she died of complications of multiple blunt force injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle, and her death was ruled an accident.

Gary police did not immediately provide additional details about the crash.
