Car crashes into pole near Route 25 and Ashland in Aurora

A car crashed into a pole Monday afternoon on the southeast corner of Route 25 and Ashland Avenue in west suburban Aurora, closing the intersection for investigation for nearly three hours.

About 3:35 p.m., a Kane County sheriff’s deputy saw a black Ford Fusion speeding north on Lafayette Street, according to the Kane County sheriff’s office. The deputy tried activating his emergency lights and sirens to stop the car but was unsuccessful.

The car then drove away from the deputy and turned south on Route 25, police said. About two minutes after the deputy tried to once again stop the car, it struck a pole for traffic signals on the southeast corner of Route 25 and Ashland Avenue.

The 38-year-old man driving the Ford fled on foot from the scene and was taken into custody, police said. The front seat passenger, a 37-year-old man, was injured in the crash and taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora with potential life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed, and Aurora police are investigating the crash, police said.
