Illinois State Police were investigating a report of shots fired early Sunday on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Shortly after 2 a.m., police received a call of shots fired in the outbound lanes of I-90/94 near 81st Street, according to police.

When officers responded, they discovered a vehicle had crashed into the wall at that location, and witnesses stated two people were spotted running away from the scene, police said.

The vehicle had not been struck by gunfire and the two people were never located, police said. Additional information was not available.
