Suburban man killed in Garfield Ridge motorcycle crash

A southwest suburban man was killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday night in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

John Baran, 46, was driving a motorcycle about 9:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Harlem when the motorcycle crossed lanes and was hit by an oncoming SUV, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 9:57 p.m., authorities said.

An autopsy Friday showed that Baran, of the 500 block of Beech Lane in New Lenox, died of multiple injuries from a motorcycle hitting another vehicle, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.
