A Chicago man has died after he was injured in a crash Saturday morning in the northwest suburbs.

A 2009 Ford Focus was westbound on Plank Road near Lawrence Road in unincorporated Burlington Township when it began to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone about 9:30 a.m., according to the Kane County sheriff’s office.

The driver of the Focus swerved to avoid colliding with an oncoming vehicle, and the car left the road, struck a utility pole and rolled on its side, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver, a 21-year-old Chicago man, was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with non-life-threatening injures, according to the sheriff’s office.

The passenger, 20-year-old Chester Buford, was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he died Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office. He lived in the 2700 block of South Indiana.

Both were wearing seatbelts, according to the sheriff’s office. No tickets have been issued as of Thursday morning.
