A 23-year-old man was shot and critically wounded Friday evening in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.

It happened about 7:45 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Michigan, according to Chicago Police.

The man suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known.
