Wife of 80-year-old man killed by snowplow sues company

A woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a snow removal company and the driver of a snowplow that fatally struck her 80-year-old husband last year in north suburban Morton Grove.

Agostino Comella fell and was hit by the plow while clearing his driveway in the 9200 block of Ozark Street the morning of Dec. 29, 2015, according to Morton Grove police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He died at the scene.

Comella had been talking to the man at the wheel, who then put the 2007 GMC Sierra pickup in reverse and backed over Comella, according to the suit filed Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court by his wife, Rosa Comella. No traffic citations were issued in the days after the accident.

The two-count suit against GEM Landscaping and Snow Removal and their driver is seeking more than $100,000 in damages for negligence. A representative for the company could not immediately be reached for comment.

Comella is survived by his wife and two sons, according to the suit.
