A 27-year-old woman who was critically injured in a crash early Sunday after driving the wrong way on I-80 in the south suburbs is facing charges.

Breanna Simmons, 27, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage, according to Illinois State Police.

At 3:07 a.m. Sunday, Simmons was driving a 2003 Ford Focus east in the westbound lanes of I-80 when her car crashed head-on into a semi truck about two miles east of Ridge Road, police said.

Simmons, of University Park, was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where she remained in critical condition Monday afternoon, police said.

The driver of the semi, a 29-year-old California man, was not injured, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by state police.
