A 49-year-old woman was killed and her live-in boyfriend wounded in a shooting at their home in south suburban Harvey early Sunday.

Officers were called about 3:30 a.m. to the house in the 14600 block of Winchester Avenue, according to Harvey city spokesman Sean Howard.

Aida Smith had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Howard and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Her “live-in companion,” a man whose exact age was unknown, was also shot repeatedly, Howard said. His condition was stabilized.

He told police the shooter broke in through a window and opened fire. Detectives were “investigating the validity” of his statement, Howard said.

“From our preliminary findings, the Harvey Police [Department] views this as an isolated incident and not a random act of violence,” Howard said.

It was the second fatal shooting in Harvey this year. A man was charged and remains held without bond for the February slaying.
