A man charged with shooting a woman during an argument before forcing her and her two children into a vehicle Friday night in the South Chicago neighborhood has been ordered held without bond.

Robert Ashford, 36, faces one count each of first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, all felonies, according to Chicago Police. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count of violation of an order of protection.

The 27-year-old woman was involved in a domestic argument with Ashford about 9:15 p.m. in the 2900 block of East 91st Street when he pulled out a gun and shot her in the wrist, thigh and foot, authorities said at the time.

After the fight, Ashford forced the woman and her two children into a vehicle and drove away from the scene, police said. The vehicle eventually crashed into another car in the 9000 block of South Jeffery.

The woman was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where her condition was stabilized, police said. The children, ages 10 and 6, were also taken to Christ for observation and were listed in good condition.

An unknown number of people from the second vehicle involved in the crash were taken to South Shore Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said.

Ashford, who lives on the same block as the shooting, was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with injuries he suffered in the crash, according to police.

He remains hospitalized as of Monday afternoon, and was ordered held without bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.
