A Cook County judge set a $900,000 bail for one of the four defendants charged with a hate crime in the Facebook Live torture case.
On Monday, Judge William H. Hooks appointed private attorneys for 18-year-old Tesfaye Cooper and 19-year-old Brittany Covington.
Their next court date will be March 1.
The man and his four accused tormentors objected to having cameras inside the Cook County courtroom.
People posted harsh reactions to the live videos of a mentally disabled 18-year-old man being abused in a West Side apartment but no one called police
If the treatment of this young man was not a hate crime — for purposes of setting out charges — then Illinois’ hate crime law is an empty vessel.
