Adam Eaton starts season in Nellie Fox territory

OAKLAND, Calif. — Adam Eaton had two more hits in the White Sox’ 6-1 victory on Thursday, giving him nine for the season and making him the first Sox to open a season with four straight multihit games since Nellie Fox in 1955.

Eaton singled in the ninth inning, when the Sox broke open a 2-0 game. They went on to defeat the Oakland A’s 6-1 and take three of four games.

“It was good just to add on,” Eaton said. “The last two years we would have settled for two runs and bit our nails in the ninth inning. It’s good to let the bullpen breathe easy.”

Closer David Robertson, who closed the Sox’ first two wins, was warming up in the ninth but was able to sit back down. Zach Putnam finished up.

“What’s going on in here is special,” Eaton said. “We have some really good guys, guys who are having fun. You can feel it in here. A lot of guys getting along, and you’re excited to come to the ballpark. Proof is in the pudding taking three out of four and now we get to go home and play in front of the home fans.”

Eaton’s poor start contributed to the Sox’ poor start in 2015. He has had a multi-hit game in each of the first four, and has reached base in 26 consecutive games dating to last season.
