Todd Carlander caught an “epic’’ northern pike earlier this month at Montrose Harbor, an occurrence becoming more regular on the Chicago lakefront at many harbors.

“That one was fairly epic,’’ he emailed. “It put on a good show and pulled hard. Big crowd gathered for the fight. When I finally got the fish up on the pier without a net a big cheer went up.’’

I can see why.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and good stories, runs Wednesdays on the Sun-Times outdoors page. The story part matters as much as the big fish part, well and the photo part.
