Bears outside linebacker Pernell McPhee (knee) and wide receiver Marquess Wilson (foot), who both started the season on the physically unable to perform list, can return to practice as soon as Friday, six days before the first game in which they’re eligible to play — Oct. 20 in Green Bay.

Coach John Fox was predictably vague Monday when asked whether McPhee was ready to return.

“We’ll keep you guys posted,” he said.

Once they practice, Bears have 21 days to either activate them for games or move them to injured reserve.

McPhee had offseason arthroscopic knee surgery, and the Bears were cautious, knowing they needed to monitor both knees. Outside linebacker Willie Young said he wasn’t sure what McPhee could bring.

“We’ll see what happens when he gets back,” Young said.
