Bears defensive lineman Mitch Unrein (AP).

The Bears bolstered their defensive line by keeping one of their own. The Bears reached a two-year deal with Mitch Unrein on Saturday.

Unrein was signed two weeks into last season after he was waived by the Chargers. He previously played for coach John Fox with the Broncos.

Possessing the “football character” that Fox often preaches about, Unrein emerged as a solid rotational player late last season. He appeared in 14 games, getting 36.7 percent of the snaps. He finished with 32 tackles, including two for loss, a sack and six hurries (per coach reviews).

Unrein also played on special teams and occasionally handled fullback in goal-line situations.
