Bears WR Kevin White to have fibula surgery this week

Bears receiver Kevin White will have surgery this week to repair a spiral fracture in his left fibula, coach John Fox said Monday.

The Bears weren’t sure of their next move when they placed the 2015 first-round pick on injured reserve Wednesday but determined that surgery is “the best medical treatment,” Fox said.

“I think, time-wise, he’d still have a shot to come back at some point in the season,” Fox said.

White could still return to practice in as soon as five weeks and games in seven. The Bears can only return one player from IR, though, and Kyle Fuller (knee) went on IR on Sept. 27.

Fox wouldn’t give a timeline on White’s return.

“I think really at the end of the day it’s going to be its own circumstance,” he said. “We’ll kind of cross that bridge when we get there. It’s still a pretty lengthy time away, to sit there and try to distinguish what would be the right thing is hard to say right now. Have to wait and see where his development is, both physically and the injury-wise.”
