The Cubs’ three-headed catching corps could be down to the standard two by Friday, depending on the status of backup David Ross, who left Thursday’s game with a possible injury.

Manager Joe Maddon described it as “abdominal tightness.”

During his eighth-inning at-bat, in which he eventually struck out attempting to bunt, Ross stepped away from the plate in apparent pain, signaling to his side.

After Ross ended the eighth with the strikeout, he was replaced behind the plate by Miguel Montero, who had entered as a pinch-hitter.
