Centers of attention: ex-Bears nominated for Pro Football Hall

Three centers with Bears ties — former players Olin Kreutz and Jay Hilgenberg and coach Kevin Mawae — were among 94 modern-era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced Wednesday night.

Hilgenberg, who hosts a Bears radio pregame show, played for the Bears from 1981-91 and made seven Pro Bowls.

Kreutz, the Bears’ center from 1998-2010, made six.

The Bears kept Mawae as an offensive assistant after he spent training camp as an intern. He played for the Seahawks, Jets and Titans from 1994-2009.
