Derrick Rose’s court filing says sex was consensual

In court documents filed on his behalf, Bulls star Derrick Rose said the woman who has accused him of sexual assault ‘‘consented to sexual interaction with more than one co-defendant on more than one occasion, consented to sexual interactions on the day in question and invited the defendants to her apartment and buzzed them in.’’

On Aug. 26, news broke of a civil lawsuit filed against Rose and two of his acquaintances. The suit alleges the three sexually assaulted Rose’s ex-girlfriend in 2013.

Rose’s response in documents obtained by the Sun-Times was that the sexual interaction not only was consensual, but that the woman only began to get upset with him because she thought she should have been reimbursed for one of the sex toys she bought and used during the night in question and because Rose stopped returning her text messages.

In discussing the lawsuit with the media on Monday, Rose said: ‘‘The story was false. I don’t think I have to alter anything. I live my life the way I live my life. I live in the moment, and I enjoy life. I can’t let that one incident that’s not true affect the way that I live, and I’m not going to let it. I love my life, actually, so I can’t complain about anything. I’ve just got to take this, use it as fuel, and the season is around the corner.’’

Lisa Cohen, Rose’s attorney/spokeswoman, said in an email that there was ‘‘nothing new on the record from here.’’

The Bulls stood in full support of Rose on the first day of training camp Tuesday, with new coach Fred Hoiberg saying: ‘‘I’m just focused on trying to help Derrick be the best he can be — on the court, off the court, whatever role I can take as his coach to be there for him when he needs me.’’
