Bears quarterback Jay Cutler did not practice Thursday, coach John Fox said.

He had returned to the field Wednesday, albeit in a limited fashion, in his first action since leaving the game with a sprained right thumb nine days earlier. Thursday, Cutler wore a sweatshirt and sweatpants, but no brace, during the portion of practice open to reporters.

Fox said Cutler didn’t do a “whole lot” Wednesday, and the Bears wanted to be cautious Thursday.

“This guy is the toughest guy I’ve ever been around in 12 years coaching in the National Football League,” offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said. “He is resilient. The minute that he’s ready to go and gets healthy and is ready to play, then if Coach feels that way and we feel that way as an organization, then he’ll be out there.”

In his place, backup Brian Hoyer completed 30 of 49 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns, most of it in garbage time, against the Cowboys. Hoyer went 9-for-12 for 78 yards when he replaced Cutler in the third quarter of the Eagles game.
