NEW YORK — Left-hander Jose Quintana appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday.
Quintana, who is from Colombia, has said he learned to speak English in large part from watching the show. Producers from the show heard about it and invited him to appear. Quintana’s appearance was taped Tuesday afternoon at Rockefeller Center while his teammates were preparing for their game against the Yankees.
Fallon attended the game, sitting behind home plate. Quintana is not pitching in the series.
Many Spanish-speaking players, including Jose Abreu and Melky Cabrera, conduct interviews with the assistance of interpreters. Quintana does not use Sox interpreter Billy Russo, although he usually stands nearby in case Quintana needs clarification on a question.
