Pernell McPhee yells at Jay Cutler after his interception
Bears outside linebacker Pernell McPhee gave quarterback Jay Cutler an earful on Monday night.
Following Cutler’s interception late in the third quarter of the Eagles’ 29-14 drubbing of the Bears, Comcast SportsNet captured McPhee walking onto the field and yelling at Cutler as he came to the sideline.
It was a rough night for Cutler, who did not return after his interception because of a right thumb injury. He had a cast on his hand after the game.
Before leaving, Cutler completed 12 of 17 passes for 157 yards. He was sacked three times.
McPhee, meanwhile, did not play because he remains on the physically unable-to-perform list following left knee surgery in February. The earliest McPhee can return is Week 7.
After the game, Cutler said he didn’t have a problem with McPhee’s words or actions.
“I’m fine with that,” Cutler said. “He’s a passionate guy. Everyone’s got a lot invested into this, and he does as well. No one likes to lose. No one likes to lose in that type of fashion. He’s upset. I’m upset. Everyone is upset in that locker room right now. But the good thing is that we’ve got a bunch of good guys in there. We’ve got a bunch of good coaches, and we’ve 14 games left.”
Coach John Fox said he didn’t see Cutler’s encounter with McPhee. Both players were voted team captains for the second consecutive year under Fox.
“If you’re talking about discussions and talking, we’re a family,” Fox said. “We do have arguments, and we do have frustrations. I didn’t see it. So whether he was ‘in his face’ and all this other stuff, I don’t know. But our guys have discussions all the time.”
