Cubs second baseman Logan Watkins tore his Achilles during a spring workout in Arizona while training and competing for the starting second base spot. Even though Watkins won’t return for the 2015 season, the second baseman is making progress to a full recovery.

The 25-year-old second baseman said on Monday he’s close to beginning his rehab after having surgery in February.

During the 2014 season, Watkins hit .246 with one home run and six RBI in 31 games.

With the addition of Addison Russell, second base is crowded in the Cubs organization, and Watkins will have to work hard to get back into the picture.
