Manager Robin Ventura is eager to get reliever Carson Fulmer back on the mound after his disappointing performance in the White Sox’ 7-5 loss Friday to the Tigers.

Fulmer allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning to blow a 5-4 lead on the way to the Sox’ seventh loss in their last eight games.

‘‘You feel a little bad for him when he goes out there and does that,’’ Ventura said. ‘‘He had two really good [appearances], so that was a little unexpected. You expect him to bounce back from it.’’

The Sox selected Fulmer with the eighth pick in the 2015 draft. In his two previous appearances in the last week, he gave up no runs in 2⅔ innings.

‘‘Just like a player that makes an error or goes through a slump offensively, that’s stuff that happens,’’ Ventura said. ‘‘For him, you just expect that he’s going to put it behind him.’’

Avila at ‘square one’

Catcher Alex Avila said he’s ‘‘back to square one’’ after suffering a setback during his minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday.

‘‘It’ll be two to four weeks, depending on how I progress,’’ said Avila, who was put on the disabled list July 5 with an injured hamstring. ‘‘I probably tried to rush back a little too quick and wasn’t ready. It’s frustrating. I’d like to be back, but you have to let nature take its course.’’

Avila’s timetable was more optimistic than that of general manager Rick Hahn, who said Thursday that Avila would be out at least four more weeks.

Dioner Navarro, who has struggled at the plate all season, entered the game Saturday hitting .083 since Avila’s injury. Backup Omar Narvaez has two hits and two runs scored in two starts since being added to the roster July 6.

Lawrie out, Eaton back

Second baseman Brett Lawrie missed his second consecutive game after being removed from the game Thursday with hamstring tightness.

Outfielder Adam Eaton, who left the game Friday after fouling a ball off his foot, was back in the

leadoff spot.

Ventura said Lawrie’s injury isn’t significant enough to warrant a trip to the DL.
