Willie Young acknowledged a mutual interest in negotiating a contract extension with the Bears, but said Wednesday he’ll leave discussions up to his agent.

“I would like to be here long-term,” said Young, entering the final season of a three-year contract. “Absolutely. I would like to finish my career up here in Chicago.”

The outside linebacker is more comfortable this year than last, when he switched from defensive end while recovering from an Achilles’ tendon injury. He said he’ll prove his worth in coverage this season, too.

The Bears drafted Leonard Floyd, who plays the same position, but Young said Floyd could turn to him for advice, given their similar body type.

Last year, Young joked that didn’t think of himself as a linebacker. He continued the bit after OTAs on Wednesday, pretending that he didn’t hear questions that asked about his position title.

Asked what he learned about himself during last year’s switch, he smiled.

“”I’m pretty good at what I do,” he said.
