With Jeffery out, Marquess Wilson eager for his big chance

Alshon Jeffery’s suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances is an opportunity for Marquess Wilson — ready or not.

Wilson, who was activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Tuesday after recovering from a broken foot], has not played in a game in almost a year — since the Bears’ upset of the Packers at Lambeau Field last Thanksgiving Day. He was limited in practice Wednesday.

“Whatever they need me to, I just want to do it,” Wilson said. “If they want me to play a lot of snaps, I’ll do my best. Anything to help the team.”

Wilson said the biggest challenge will be “getting a connection with Jay [Cutler]. It just takes time on the field and then film study trying to figure out what we did the week before.”

Injury report

Nose tackle Eddie Goldman, who played for the first time in six weeks against the Buccaneers, did not practice Wednesday to rest his ankle.

Right tackle Bobby Massie (concussion protocol), tackle Mike Adams (illness), defensive tackle Mitch Unrein (back) and cornerback Deiondre Hall (ankle) also did not practice.

Seven player were limited: wide receivers Eddie Royal (toe) and Wilson, left guard Josh Sitton (ankle), linebackers Pernell McPhee (knee) and Willie Young (ankle) and cornerbacks Bryce Callahan (hamstring) and Tracy Porter (knee).

Rookie mistake?

Leonard Floyd should have gone lower when he missed a sack of Jameis Winston that proved costly in the Bears’ loss to the Bucs on Sunday.

“When you’re going high for a guy, the guy’s head and shoulders can move,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said, “so you have to shoot for the mid-section. It’s easier for the quarterback, especially an elusive one, to shake you off if you are up on the shoulder area.”
