Illinois has made a move toward replacing the private manager of the lottery, years after the first of two governors tried to fire the current manager
A west suburban Villa Park man won $100,000 from an Illinois Lottery ticket.
Patrick Kennedy bought the winning ticket at Jewel-Osco, 2021 E. Laraway, in New Lenox, and matched all five numbers in the midday drawing.
Players can once again buy tickets at retail locations, and via the lottery’s mobile app and website. Prize payments will also resume.
State budget woes mean no one can play the Powerball lottery or Mega Millions games, and only lottery prizes of up to $25,000 can be redeemed.
If someone in Illinois wins the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot this week, the state won’t have authority to write the check.
Concern over the state of Illinois’ fiscal condition prompted that the decision by national lottery groups to drop Illinois from both games.
