(NAPERVILLE) Police say a man was drunk when he drove into a west suburban lake early Saturday, killing two passengers in the car.

About 2 a.m., emergency crews responded to the intersection of Aurora Avenue and Eagle Street in Naperville, where a 2007 Chevrolet Impala had crashed through several trees and into Quarry Lake, according to a statement from Naperville police.

The driver, 21-year-old Michael T. Szot of west suburban Geneva, got out of the car and swam to safety, but his two passengers did not escape, police said.

Mihirtej Boddupalli, of southwest suburban Lisle, and Sajaad Safiullah Syed of Naperville, were pronounced dead at Edward Hospital in Naperville, police said. Both men were 21.

Szot was arrested after being released from the hospital. He faces four charges of aggravated DUI and two counts of reckless homicide, police said.

Bond information for Szot was not immediately available.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Naperville police at (630) 305-5285.
