A man was killed and four other people were injured in a shooting Saturday evening in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in the 900 block of North Massasoit Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco said, citing preliminary information.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where he was later pronounced dead, Pacheco said.

A police source said he was a documented gang member.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the foot and thigh; a 53-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and thigh; a 33-year-old man was shot in the right foot and a 43-year-old woman was shot in an unknown location, Pacheco said. All four were taken to West Suburban Medical Center in “stable” condition.

The shooting may have been a drive-by attack, police said.

As of 8 p.m., Saturday, that took the total number of homicide victims in the city since Friday night to three and total number injured in shootings to 21.
