The State Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic for a week beginning Monday morning for construction on the Chicago Riverwalk project.

Closures will begin at 6 a.m. Monday, July 14, and continue through 6 a.m. Monday, July 21, because the work on the walkway under the bridge will require periodic lifting, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.

All northbound vehicles will be detoured west to LaSalle Street via Wacker Drive, then east via Illinois Street. Southbound vehicles will be rerouted west to Clark Street via Grand Avenue, then to State Street via Wacker.

Bicycles will be detoured west to Dearborn Street.

Pedestrians will not be able to access the bridge during closures.

The Riverwalk project will create a continuous pedestrian path along the south bank of the river from State to Lake Street, CDOT said.
