Cranes were in place early Thursday to remove a historic Andersonville water tower.

Painted to resemble the blue and yellow Swedish flag, the water tower atop the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark, suffered damage during the harsh winter.

Several consultants recommended the tower’s removal, according to the museum.

“With the severe winter weather Chicago has experienced this year, the museum’s Water Tower has sustained damage,” according to a statement from the museum.
