A 31-year-old man found dead on the CTA Green Line tracks had been hit and killed by a train, an autopsy found Sunday.

Charles Watkins, 31, of the 500 block of North Lawler, was found dead about 6:45 a.m. Saturday on the northbound tracks at the Pulaski station, 4000 W. Lake, authorities said.

A CTA conductor spotted Watkins’ body on the tracks, police said. A CTA spokesman said that conductor’s train did not hit Watkins.

An autopsy conducted Sunday ruled his death an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area North detectives are conducting a non-criminal death investigation, police said.

A CTA spokeswoman could not comment on the autopsy results Sunday but said the CTA would provide any available surveillance video to police.

On Saturday night, some CTA Green Line trains were shut down for more than a half-hour about 9 p.m. Saturday after an intoxicated man fell onto the tracks at the 35th/Bronzeville Green Line station near 35th and State.

That man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition, police said.
