He’s repeatedly said he isn’t running for office, but fresh off his Venice wedding to Amal Alamuddin, Britain’s largest bookmaker has cut the odds of George Clooney taking the White House in 2016 in half.
If you like to gamble, now may be your chance to take a shot. William Hill now says the odds of Clooney entering the 2016 presidential race are 20/1, while the odds of winning it all sit at 500/1. Hillary Clinton, the obvious favorite, is at 5/4.
Even if Clooney takes a pass this time around, the bookmaker still likes his chances of becoming president at some point in his lifetime, slashing the odds from 200/1 to 100/1. What a difference saying “I do” can make.
George Clooney is not just one of the most recognisable faces in the USA, but in the world, and if he did decide to run for President he ticks a lot of boxes, said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
Clooney, who has been a Democratic supporter and raised funds for President Barack Obama, has repeatedly shot down reports of him running for office.
He has shot down reports of him running for governor of California, as well as a Senate seat. And the Brits seem especially interested in a Clooney political run, with their tabloids often quoting insiders and friends of Clooney.
In July, he responded to many of these reports in an op-ed published in USA Today.
“I’m, of course, used to the Daily Mail making up stories — they do it several times a week — and I don’t care,” Clooney wrote. “If they fabricate stories of Amal being pregnant, or that the marriage will take place on the set of Downton Abbey, or that I’m running for office, or any number of idiotic stories that they sit at their computers and invent, I don’t care.”
