A man was shot during an attempted robbery early Sunday in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

A 51-year-old man was in the 1600 block of South Central Park about 2:30 a.m. when he was approached on the street by a male who tried to rob him, police said.

The man refused to cooperate and the suspect fired a shot, striking the man in the side, police said.

The man was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
