A suspicious package temporarily closed streets in the River North neighborhood Thursday morning, but has since been deemed safe.

The Chicago Police Bomb and Arson Unit, and a K-9 unit responded to the 0-100 block of West Illinois, between Clark and State, about 10:30 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Bari Lemmon said.

The package was cleared and the area reopened about 12:45 p.m.

Lemmon could not say what the item was that instigated the incident
