(RIVER FOREST) Charges were filed Monday against a man arrested minutes after he robbed a bank in west suburban River Forest on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Derrick D. Roland, 42, is accused of robbing a TCF Bank branch inside the Jewel-Osco at 7525 N. Lake St., according to River Forest police and the FBI.

He did not show a weapon, and ran out with an unknown amount of cash just before 9:30 a.m., authorities said.

Just three minutes after the robbery, a River Forest police officer on patrol less than two blocks away stopped a man matching the description of the robber, police said.

A bank employee positively identified Roland as the suspect, and authorities found him with cash and the note used in the robbery, police claim.

Roland was charged with bank robbery Monday in U.S. District Court, authorities said.

“The arrest is an example of outstanding head-up police work by one of our veteran officers,” River Forest Deputy Police Chief James O’Shea said. “We are fortunate no one was hurt during this event.”
