In today’s Lori’s List, TV critic Lori Rackl reviews “Death Comes to Pemberley,” a two-part miniseries debuting at 8 p.m. Sunday on WTTW-Channel 11.
It’s a noble idea: Catch up with main characters in Jane Austen’s beloved novel “Pride and Prejudice” and spice things up with a murder mystery in a setting worthy of “Downton Abbey.”
That’s the gist of PBS’s two-part “Masterpiece Mystery” miniseries, adapted from the book by crime novelist P.D. James.
The esteemed cast includes Matthew Rhys as Darcy, Anna Maxwell Martin as Elizabeth Bennet and “The Good Wife’s” Matthew Goode as that scoundrel Wickham.
Like the “Downton Abbey” it’s desperately trying to be, the show looks gorgeous. But the pretty packaging is wrapped around a hollow mystery that’s less whodunit and more who cares?
