An elderly man with dementia who was reported missing after he didn’t return home from a trip to the northwest suburbs on Friday has been found.

John Hemmer, 81, left his home in the 5600 block of North Moody about 1:30 p.m. to take a short trip to the area of the 1600 block of South River Road in Des Plaines, according to a missing person alert from Chicago Police.

Hemmer eventually returned home, police said about 9 p.m.
