(BIG ROCK) A west suburban man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in unincorporated Kane County on Tuesday morning that may have been caused by speed.

About 8:30 a.m., a Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling northbound on Granart Road near Jericho Road in unincorporated Big Rock Township lost control and left the roadway, flipping several times, the Kane County sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, Gengler said. He was identified as Gregory G. Oakes, 64, of the 400 block of Meadowlark Circle in Sandwich.

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed, the sheriff’s office said.
