SHARE 1 dead, 1 injured when stolen car crashes in South Lawndale

A 17-year-old boy was killed and another was seriously injured early Wednesday when the stolen car they were in crashed after a police chase in the South Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.

The teens crashed the stolen car into a concrete wall about 1:45 a.m. in the 3200 block of West 32nd Street, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The car crashed after officers ended a pursuit, Gaines said.

A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:26 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His name was not released Thursday evening pending notification of his family.

Another 17-year-old boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Gaines said. No police officers were injured.

It was not known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

The police Major Accidents Investigations Unit is investigating.
