A man was shot and critically wounded Sunday morning in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers responding to multiple calls of a battery in progress about 5:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of South Francisco found the 18-year-old man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to both legs, police said.

He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member and the shooting is thought to be gang-related.
