A man shot himself in the chest Saturday afternoon in Washington Heights on the Far South Side, police said.

The man, 51, shot himself about 1:15 p.m. in the 10000 block of South Halsted, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
