Oswego quarterback Steven Frank spearheaded one of the most impressive scoring drives of the season Saturday night against Bolingbrook.

Without a timeout, Frank marched the Panthers 65 yards in 48 seconds, hitting Ryan Hennessy for a 14-yard touchdown to send the game into overtime.

It still wasn’t enough.

Frank was intercepted on his first pass in overtime and Bolingbrook’s Adam Klein kicked a 25-yard field goal as the Raiders defeated Oswego 31-28 in the second round of the Class 8A playoffs.

“I thought we were going to pull it off. We battled that whole game — every single play was a battle,” Frank said. “You know, some things aren’t meant to be, and that might not have been meant to be, but I swear we’ll be back next year.”

Bolingbrook (8-3) advances to face Homewood-Flossmoor in a Class 8A state quarterfinal. The Raiders lost to H-F 35-28 in Week 7.

Frank finished 20-for–35 for 299 yards and three touchdowns for Oswego (9-2). He added a 1-yard TD plunge midway through the fourth quarter to cut Bolingbrook’s lead 28–21.

Bolingbrook took a 21-14 lead when Klein hit Julian Huff for a 32-yard score on a fake punt. The Raiders extended their advantage to 14 when Quincy Woods found the end zone on a 19-yard run.

“(The fake punt) most definitely turned the tide,” Oswego coach Brian Cooney said. “We weren’t defensively aligned. Monday morning quarterback, I would have called a timeout and got us in line correctly.

“We were feeling really good going into overtime, but obviously the ball didn’t bounce in our favor.”

Woods was a thorn in Oswego’s side all night. The two-way starter hauled in a 35-yard TD pass and picked up 159 yards on nine touches.

He also deflected Frank’s pass in overtime, which was intercepted by Tuf Borland.

“I read the quarterback’s eyes,” Woods said. “I got off my man and I made a guess and jumped on the ball. I didn’t pick it off, but Tuf was right there to pick it off. That’s how we play as a team.”

With Bolingbrook’s vaunted defense stifling the run, Oswego received big performances from wide receivers Zach West, Hennessy and Hunter Blake.

West finished with 123 yards and a TD on eight catches. Hennessy had two scores and Blake added five receptions for 52 yards.

“Their defense, I’ve got to give it them, they’re a great group of guys,” Frank said. “But our receivers — I have a great receiving core and my offensive line gave me enough time to make plays. My receivers found openings in the field where I could throw it to them. I give them all the credit.”
