A teenage boy is being held without bond for fatally shooting a 19-year-old woman in July on the South Side.

Billy Haywood, 17, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting that happened on July 7, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Jaynisha Schaffer was walking with a group in the 2200 block of West 69th Street at 7:05 p.m. when Haywood rode up on a bicycle and opened fire, striking her in the back, authorities said.

Schaffer, of the 7600 block of South Paulina, died at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn a few hours later, authorities said.

Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Haywood held without bond in court Monday, according to Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office.

He is next scheduled to appear in court Dec. 19.
