SHARE Police: Person tried to grab boy, offered him candy in Austin

Police are searching for someone who offered candy to a boy and tried to grab him Tuesday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The boy was walking westbound in the 5300 block of West Thomas at 2:47 p.m. when an unknown male walked out of the east alley of the 1100 block of North Lorel, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The unknown male had his arms spread open and tried to grab the boy, stating, “I got candy for you,” police said.

The boy kicked the male in the leg and ran home, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a black coat with white or grey fur lining the hood, blue jeans and tan boots, police said. He may have a chipped or broken front tooth.
