Fire left unscathed by MLS expansion draft

The Fire didn’t make too many big names available for Wednesday’s MLS expansion draft. And the players they did make available didn’t draw interest.

Incoming teams New York City FC and Orlando City SC took part in a 10-round expansion draft, and neither took any players from the Fire. Only the Fire, New York Red Bulls and MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy didn’t lose any players to the new clubs that will begin play in 2015.

The players the Fire made available were Greg Cochrane, Matt Fondy, Marco Franco, Patrick Ianni, Benji Joya, Hunter Jumper, Alec Kann,Steven Kinney, Sanna Nyassi, Kyle Reynish, Gonzalo Segares, Florent Sinama-Pongolle, Bakary Soumare, and Grant Ward.

MLS will also conduct a waiver draft at 3:30 this afternoon.
