(RIVERSIDE) A man was arrested for DUI in west suburban Riverside his vehicle struck another Saturday night on the Southwest Side of Chicago.
Miguel Mendez, 44, of the 4900 block of South Hoyne was charged with two counts of DUI, and ticketed for driving with no valid Illinois license and no vehicle insurance, according to police. He was in custody pending a bond hearing.
A few minutes before 11 p.m. Saturday, Riverside police received a 911 call from a man who said he was following a vehicle that had struck his vehicle at Archer and Central in Chicago, according to a statement from police.
The victim was following the driver northbound on First Avenue at Forest in Riverside, police said.
Officers traced the call and caught up to the vehicle at First and 26th, police said. The vehicle was traveling 5 mph and had damage to its front end.
Officers pulled it over and arrested Mendez after they smelled a “strong odor of alcohol” coming from his breath, the statement said. Police found cans of Bud Light inside the driver’s compartment in his vehicle.
The other driver, a 53-year-old Texas man, is a Houston police officer who was visiting his mother for the holidays, police said. He was driving a rental car, which was heavily damaged in the crash.
