WASHINGTON — Patricio Garino scored 19 points and George Washington rode a dominating first half to beat DePaul 81-68 on Thursday night.

Both teams came out ice cold and the score stood at 5-3 almost five minutes in. But George Washington (6-2) went on a 14-2 run — including a 3-pointer by Nick Griffin — and later an 11-2 run to secure a 42-22 lead at the break.

Garino was 8 of 9 from the field and had five steals. Kevin Larsen and Joe McDonald both had 18 points and Larsen grabbed eight rebounds. GW shot 57.1 percent (32 of 56).

DePaul (6-2) got its deficit to 14 midway through the second half after a 7-0 run but couldn’t close the gap. The Blue Demons were led by Myke Henry’s 22 points and six rebounds. Jamee Crockett had 16 points and Billy Garrett Jr. added 10 points and four assists.
