Metra train strikes empty car in Grayslake, service delayed

(GRAYSLAKE) Metra trains were delayed Friday evening on the North Central Service line after a train struck an empty car in north suburban Grayslake.

Outbound train No. 109. scheduled to arrive in Antioch at 6:05 p.m., struck the unoccupied vehicle about 5:50 p.m. near Route 120 and Ivanhoe Road in Grayslake, said Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

No one was injured in the crash, Miller said.

Outbound trains were delayed at least 85 minutes after the crash, according to Metra’s website. Train No. 120, scheduled to depart Antioch at 7:02 p.m. and reach Chicago at 8:18 p.m., had a delayed departure due to the late arrival of equipment caused by the crash.
